Support Your Library
Since 1957, the Friends of the New Orleans Public Library has been contributing generously and providing vital volunteer service to partially fill the gap where city funding ends. Friends financially sponsor the Summer Reading Program, Children's Book Week, Adult programs, and creative writing workshops. Friends also purchase supplies and provide grants directly to each of the 14 library locations.
In addition to providing much-needed funding to the Library, Friends annually give 100,000 books to hospitals, shelters, prisons, schools, and other community partnering organizations.
Their main fundraising goals are accomplished through book sales and membership. There are many ways to participate and join the Friends in their mission to aid the libraries of New Orleans.
The New Orleans Public Library Foundation is the fundraising arm of the New Orleans Public Library, founded in 1990 to support the library by managing gifts made by private individuals, companies, and foundations. It is an educational, charitable non-profit organization under IRS Section 501(c)3.
The Foundation's mission is to strengthen the library system by mobilizing resources to promote excellent facilities, innovative services, and extensive use of these educational, civic, and cultural resources. The Foundation envisions for New Orleans a vibrant public library system featuring excellent facilities and offering quality services, programs, and technologies that support a culture of lifelong learning, promote a strong democracy, and advance a creative economy for all throughout the City of New Orleans.
